2016 was an incredible year for fights. It was the year that gave us Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit. It gave us Dominick Cruz vs. TJ Dillashaw. It gave us Michael Bisping vs. Anderson Silva. It gave us Cub Swanson vs. Doo Ho Choi. And of course, it gave us two unforgettable scraps between MMA superstars Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, whose rivalry affected two record-breaking pay-per-views.

The first of these fights, which was put together on short notice when Rafael Dos Anjos was forced out of a bout with McGregor, saw Diaz shocked the world with a second-round submission of McGregor, who seemed nearly unbeatable at the time.

Several months later, in the main event of August’s UFC 202, McGregor received a shot at redemption. This fight one-upped the pair’s fun first fight, delivering not just as one of the best fights of the year, but one of the best fights ever – period. For five, frenzied rounds, the two rivals pelted each other with heavy artillery, both forcing momentum swings and braving moments of severe adversity. In the end, McGregor would win this unforgettable fight with a hard-fought majority decision.

Earlier this week, the UFC released some unseen footage of this bout as part of their new UFC SOUNDWAVES series. Shortly thereafter, McGregor shared this video to his Twitter account, assuring that, despite his current obsession with a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, he looks forward to a tie-breaking rematch with Diaz down the road.

“This is amazing video of a great chapter in my career,” McGregor said of his second bout with Diaz. “I look forward to the trilogy fight down the road. It was a hell of a fight.”
