Doo Ho Choi is determined to learn from Cub Swanson loss, promises a “new Korean Superboy”

From the early vantage point, December’s UFC 206 was widely considered to be a fairly weak card. In the end, however, the card delivered as one of the best year, making up for its lack of big names by producing some epic stoppages and perhaps the best fight in UFC history: a featherweight war between Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi.

Despite a valiant effort against the far more experienced Swanson, Choi would lose this fight by decision, and return to South Korea with a new loss on his record, and plenty of bruises to show for it.

Having recovered from this loss, however, the South Korean star is now determined to learn from the experience, and show off a brand new “Korean Superboy” when he fights Andre Fili at UFC 214 this July 29.

“I have no regrets—not at all,” Choi told Champions.co’s Jim Edwards. “I took back a lot of learning from that fight. I’ve never regretted calling Cub out and I’m still a great fan of his. I’m now fully recovered from the fight and I’ve got no long-term injuries or anything like that. I look back on it [the fight] proudly and I know the UFC [bosses] liked it.”

“It doesn’t matter who my opponent is,” Choi said. “Don’t get me wrong, I respect him, but this fight is about showing the improvements I’ve made. I’m glad to be fighting in the US again. My fans in America can expect to see a much improved fighter next time I’m in the Octagon. I feel truly blessed to have so many support from the fans and I’m going to put on a performance they will remember.”

“Being an unbeaten fighter may sound good, but my goal is to become the best fighter. I can’t wait to show everyone the new Korean Superboy.”
