Nate Diaz asserts whose side he is definitely not on for Mayweather vs McGregor

By Russell Ess - August 24, 2017

Nate Diaz thinks it’s best for every fighter to not make any hard claims of who will win the mega-million dollar money boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Having fought the Irish MMA superstar twice and having one win and one loss on record with “The Notorious,” Diaz knows he is a game opponent.

Although Mayweather’s team has hinted at trying to get Nate to walk out with Floyd for the fight on Saturday night, Nate’s roots are in mixed martial arts. However, in speaking on the “Against All Odds with Cousin Sal” podcast, Diaz says he isn’t picking any sides, but there is one player involved that he is not happy with.

“It’s crazy because, I’m not on the MMA side, I won’t tell you I’m on Floyd’s side or Conor’s side but I’ll tell you whose side I’m not on, I’m definitely not on the UFC’s side, you know what I’m saying?” Diaz said (transcribed by Dave Doyle for MMA Fighting). “The boxers, every f*cking pro boxer is saying something and all this criticism, and I think it’s a better option is to keep your opinion out of it.”

With many boxers and boxing pundits claiming McGregor has no chance against Mayweather, Diaz says those claims are foolish, especially for those who actually compete as fighters. Diaz believes that in a fight, everyone stands a chance. While those claiming McGregor has no chance, Diaz says the boxing purists will look extremely silly if an upset occurs.

“The ignorance is crazy,” Diaz added, “because no one actually knows except for fighters like me and my brother who have sparred with the high-level pros. I know if I went into a fight like that, I’d be like ‘don’t ever count me out, watch me win this sh*t,’ so I’ve got to believe that the more people talk like that, gives him more of a chance of having more and more motivation. That makes things more entertaining, more interesting.”
