WLC: Lethwei Showcase results: Antonio Faria retains title with fourth-straight stoppage

World Lethwei Championship (WLC), the world’s largest Lethwei organization, hosted WLC: Lethwei Showcase, which aired for the first time earlier today. In the main event, Light Welterweight World Lethwei Champion Antonio Faria continued his knockout winning streak by finishing challenger Francisco Vinuelas at the end of round 3 to retain the Light Welterweight World Lethwei Championship.

World Lethwei Championship will return to our screens with WLC: Lethwei Showcase on Friday night in Asia, and Friday morning in the Western Hemisphere. The WLC: Lethwei Showcase main event will feature the first title defence of Light Welterweight World Lethwei Champion Antonio Faria, who will look to thwart the attack of Spanish veteran Francisco Vinuelas.

World Lethwei Championship (WLC), the world’s largest Lethwei fighting organization, has released the full card for WLC: Hideout Battle, set to broadcast to over 100 countries from an undisclosed location on 28 August. The historic main event will feature the crowning of the inaugural female lethwei world champion as Souris Manfredi (2-0 lethwei) of France take on former WBO Muay Thai title challenger Maisha Katz (0-0 lethwei) from Spain for the Women’s Bantamweight World Lethwei Championship. In the co-main event, Myanmar fan favourite So Mi Ong Luktupfah returns to action against Artur Te of Uzbekistan in a Bantamweight contest.

Also called Burmese bare knuckle boxing, Lethwei is far older than other combat sports like MMA, as there are records of matches taking place as far back as the third century in Myanmar. Lethwei, nicknamed “The Art of Nine Limbs” because it includes head-butts, punches, elbows, kicks and knees, is considered one of the most violent sports in the world. Clinches, sweeps, and throws are accepted techniques as well, which makes the sport even more dangerous.
