Bellator wrapped up it’s ninth season last weekend in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with ‘Bellator 109’ which was headlined by a middleweight title fight that saw Andrew Shlemenko stop Doug “Rhino” Marshall in the first-round to reclaim the middleweight strap.

When Bellator gave their welterweight champion an unconditional release from the promotion, UFC President Dana White expressed zero interest in the acquisition. However, his very public proclamation of disinterest isn’t stopping the two parties from a closed door meeting to discuss the possibility today in Vegas .

Bellator releases Matt Riddle following second fight withdrawal

Matt Riddle (7-3 MMA) is once again a free agent, as Bellator officials recently announced that the welterweight fighter has been released by the promotion. Riddle was expected to face Nathan Coy on the main card of Bellator 109, which goes down this weekend in Matt’s home state of Pennsylvania. However, due to reasons not yet public, Riddle has decided to withdraw from the scheduled welterweight bout.

Galvao utilized his overhand rights to set up a takedown in the opening minute of the first round. McKenna, usually quick on the ground, found himself in a very disadvantageous position right away. Galvao transitioned at will from back mount to full mount and almost locked in the rear naked choke a number of times.
