Some massive names are scheduled to throw down in Saudi Arabia tonight, including Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, who are tentatively booked to fight one another in 2024.

However, the best-laid plans often go awry. Despite Eddie Hearn’s comments about the two boxing on December 23rd in Saudi Arabia, they later lost that date to Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk. Well, they lost the date for a little bit.

Former UFC fighter and current head of fighter operations for PFL Europe Dan Hardy believes Francis Ngannou has the edge over Anthony Joshua in a potential boxing match. Ngannou has made waves in boxing world after nearly defeating WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in a 10-round match. Ngannou lost the bout via split decision. In the aftermath of the fight, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has shared interest in booking a boxing match with Ngannou.

Professional boxers Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are now set to return. ‘AJ’ and ‘The Bronze Bomber’ were in talks with one another for most of this calendar year. While Deontay Wilder has stayed on the sidelines, Anthony Joshua has notched two wins inside the boxing ring in 2023. However, their plans for a Saudi Arabia clash in December were blown up earlier this summer due to financial demands.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said he liked what he saw from former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou Saturday night in a losing effort to Tyson Fury. Although Ngannou did not possess prior boxing experience before facing the WBC heavyweight champion, Hearn said Ngannou’s fights would generate more and more attention moving forward.

Anthony Joshua squared off with Robert Helenius in the headliner of tonight’s boxing event at the O2 Arena in London, England. Helenius (32-5) stepped in on short notice to replace Joshua’s original opponent Dillian Whyte, who was pulled from the fight due to an adverse finding in a drug test last week.

Former boxing champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are reportedly set to clash in December. ‘AJ’ and ‘The Bronze Bomber’ have been in talks over a potential fight for a while now. In April, Anthony Joshua scored a unanimous decision win over Jermaine Franklin, snapping a two-fight losing streak. Following the victory, he called for matchups with Dillian Whyte, Deontay Wilder, and Tyson Fury.

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has sent his first message to Anthony Joshua. ‘The Gpysy King’ is still attempting to book his return to the boxing ring. Fury last competed in December, in a trilogy bout against Derek Chisora. In that outing, the British star scored his third, and likely final, lopsided win over ‘Del Boy’. This time, defeating the contender by tenth-round stoppage.

Tyson Fury may not be fighting Demsey McKean after all. Earlier this week it was reported that Fury was in talks to return in August in Australia against McKean. The fight was a bit of a disappointment for boxing fans as many had hoped Fury’s next fight would be against Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Francis Ngannou had signed a blockbuster deal with PFL. However, it was also revealed that he won’t make his debut until 2024, instead giving him time to try and have his long-awaited boxing debut instead.

Amer Abdallah of Saudi’s Skill Challenge Entertainment is looking to host a mega boxing event this year with Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk as the main event. The Saudi boxing promoter revealed talks are underway to see Fury take on Usyk in the headliner and Deontay Wilder face Anthony Joshua in the co-main event on the same card. It also would not be a tournament, just two heavyweight fights going down on the same night.

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has confirmed that he’s in discussions with Francis Ngannou. ‘The Predator’ exited the UFC last month after fighting out his deal with the promotion. As a result, he was stripped of his heavyweight gold and looked for greener pastures. For their part, the UFC quickly booked Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane for the vacant title in March.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is preparing to make his boxing debut in July, and hopefully against a big name. ‘The Predator’ has been out of action since his heavyweight title defense against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270. Despite fighting with a devastating knee injury, Ngannou prevailed, using his wrestling en route to a unanimous decision victory last January.

It’s safe to say Anthony Joshua will not be making a move into mixed martial arts anytime soon. In recent years, combat sports fans have witnessed some blockbuster crossover fights. Most notably, Conor McGregor when swapping the cage for the ropes to face Floyd Mayweather in 2017. The most recent high-profile boxer to try their hand at MMA as of late was Claressa Shields under the PFL in 2021.
