Saturday afternoon, in the main event of Showtime Fights card, Anthony Joshua picked up the biggest win of his professional career as he TKOd Wladimir Klitschko in the 11th round of their highly anticipated fight.

Joshua picked up the first knockdown in the fight, dropping the champ in the 5th round, however it was Klitschko who then swung the fight in his favor as he dropped Joshua earlier in the very next round. With that being said however, in the later rounds it was Joshua who began to pick up momentum as he began to land more and more significant strikes before ultimately picking up a 11th round TKO .

The fight marked the first time in Klitschko’s career that he had suffered back to back defeats. In addition, it kept the perfect streak of Anthony Joshua in tact as he captured the IBF, the vacant WBA, and the IBO titles with his win in front of his hometown crowd.

As previously stated, the fight put Klitschko on a 2-fight losing streak that saw him 11 fight win streak snapped by Tyson Fury in 2015 when Fury picked up a unanimous decision win over the younger Klitschko brother, marking an end of what many refer to as the ‘Klitschko Era’ of boxing, which saw the two brothers dominate the heavyweight division for nearly a decade starting in 2006.

While the current mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, hasn’t competed since 2012, Wladimir has continued to fight on. Now at 41 years old, with back to back losses for the first time in his career, many are wondering if the younger Klitschko brother will decide to hang up the boxing gloves.

Only time will tell, however Anthony Joshua now advances to 19-0 for his professional record, to add on to his impressive resume which includes an olympic gold medal.
