It appears that boxing star Canelo Alvarez could be facing off against Chris Eubank Jr. later this year. The Mexican superstar is fresh off his return to the ring in May in Las Vegas. Despite a lot of talk about a long-awaited clash with David Benavidez, Canelo Alvarez instead met the young Jaime Mungia. Despite some early success from the 27-year-old, the boxing star largely dominated en route to a unanimous decision victory.

Back for the first time since a decision victory over Jermell Charlo in September, Canelo Alvarez faced the unbeaten Jaime Munguia. While the young contender had some early success, he hit the canvas in round four for the first time in his career.

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya has shared his thoughts after Jaime Munguia fell short in his undisputed super middleweight title fight against Canelo Alvarez. As expected, Munguia wasn’t afraid to swing leather at Canelo, but this also led to his downfall. The challenger often overextended, allowing Canelo to land counter punches. The biggest moment of the fight was in round four when Canelo dropped Munguia with a counter uppercut. Jaime was able to beat the 10-count, but he was clearly outmatched from that point on.

Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion, was once in a partnership with De La Hoya, an International Boxing Hall of Famer. Things quickly deteriorated between the two sides, leading to a nasty split. Canelo is currently signed to Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions promotion, but he had fights under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

It appears that Canelo Alvarez and Jermall Charlo will meet in the boxing ring later this year. The Mexican superstar has been out of the ring since a unanimous decision victory over Jermell Charlo last September. The victory was Canelo Alvarez’s third in a row, previously defeating John Ryder and Gennadiy Golovkin. Months on from the super middleweight champion’s latest win, he will reportedly fight his last opponent’s brother, Jermall Charlo.

There, Canelo Alvarez turned in a vintage performance, dominating ‘Iron Man’ with ease. He earned a unanimous decision victory to retain his super-middleweight gold, and quickly earned a callout from Jake Paul.

While he coached the show opposite Michael Chandler, he’s been admittedly uninterested in that bout.
