Report | Tyson Fury gets opponent for summer return

By Tom Taylor - March 22, 2019

According to a report from ESPN, lineal heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury (27-0-1, 19 KOs) will return to the ring on June 15 opposite Germany’s Tom Schwarz (24-0, 16 KOs). This bout will be broadcast on ESPN+ (get a free trial here). It is being targeted for Las Vegas, but a venue has not yet been confirmed.

Tyson Fury has not fought since a headline dominating December showdown with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Fury outfought his rival for the vast majority of the fight, but was on the receiving end of the bout’s only two knockdowns — including a 12th-round scare that very nearly ended the fight.

Though fans were understandably clamoring for a rematch between the two heavyweight stars, Deontay Wilder has instead been booked for a showdown with Dominic Breazeale, which will go down inside the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn in May.

Another potential opponent for both Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder was unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Joshua, however, has been booked for a fight with Jarrell Miller, which will emanate from New York City’s hallowed Madison Square Garden on June 1.

In other words, none of the sport’s top three heavyweights are fighting each other.

Stay tuned for further news on Tyson Fury as his summer return approaches.
