Social media and mixed martial arts fans around the world blew up when it was announced that UFC star Rory MacDonald would be featured on tonight’s Metamoris card. His opponent, Jonathan Torres, is known for his accomplishments as a gi-grappler. However, he recently has been on a tear in no-gi competition most recently winning the World BJJ Nogi Championship in 2013. Tonight’s bout was a no-gi match.

This bout between Jake Shields and Roberto Satoshi was not advertised for the card as it was kept a surprise for those who purchased the PPV feed or tickets to the event. The interesting part about this match is that Shields and Satoshi knew that they were fighting on “Metamoris 5”, but they would not know who their opponents were. This made it difficult for the combatants to train for the bout.

Keenan Cornelius and Yuri Simoes put on a fantastic performance on the Metamoris mat in the third grappling match of the evening. Both Cornelius and Simoes played out fantastic strategies, but it was Cornelius who fired off the most submission attempts. Even though Cornelius possessed more attempts, it was Simoes who came the closest to ending the match.

Switching gears from the previous bout, Magalhaes and Diniz had a slower paced fight with a long feeling out process. Neither man was in an offensive position until Magalhaes pulled guard ten minutes in. Before Magalhaes pulled guard, he was purely playing the defensive game while Diniz tried to get into a position where he could drag him to the ground.
