Amanda Nunes says she will soon defend her belt on “an amazing card”
Amanda Nunes had a banner 2016.
She kicked off the year with a decision defeat of talented Kyrgyzstani striker Valentina Shevchenko. Then, in the main event of the landmark UFC 200, she claimed the UFC women’s bantamweight title with a first round destruction of WMMA great Miesha Tate. Finally, in December, she closed out the year with a 48 second mauling of former champion and MMA superstar Ronda Rousey. Yet while 2016 couldn’t have gone better for Nunes, 2017 has been pretty quiet for her so far.
From the sounds of it, that will soon change. On Saturday morning, the destructive bantamweight queen took to Twitter to update her fans on her next fight. Apparently, she’ll be defending her title soon, on a stacked card.

“Don’t worry guys,” Nunes said in her post to Twitter. “I will defend this belt soon. UFC is working on making an amazing card for all the fans.“
At the moment, it is not known which card Nunes is talking about – though UFC 213 on July 8 seems like an option, given that it’s expected to be one of the most stacked cards of the year.
While the venue and date of Nunes next fight are not currently known, we do know who she’ll be fighting.
Barring an injury or similar shakeup, the Brazilian talent will be taking on Valentina Shevchenko in a rematch of their 2016 encounter. Shevchenko earned the opportunity for a title rematch with Nunes back in January, when she scored an epic, second-round submission over the streaking Julianna Pena. In her next most recent fight before this, she defeated former champion Holly Holm by unanimous decision. Her next most recent fight, finally, was her decision loss to Nunes.
Who do you think wins the anticipated bantamweight title rematch between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko?
