Joanna Jedrzejczyk refusing to predict UFC 207’s Nunes vs. Rousey fight

On December 30th, in the main event of UFC 207, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will look to make her first successful title defense as she steps into the Octagon for a highly anticipated showdown with Ronda Rousey. While Nunes will be riding a 4-fight win streak into the bout, Ronda Rousey will be returning to the Octagon after suffering the first loss of her career at the hands of Holly Holm back in November of 2015 at UFC 193.

Ahead of the fight, UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is refusing to give a prediction for the fight due to the fact that Nunes is one of her training partners at AKA, and Rousey and her have been friendly for quite some time.

She spoke to MMAJunkie about the dilemma:

“I don’t like to give predictions for everyone. Of course I am teammates with Amanda Nunes, but I’ve had longer relationship with Ronda Rousey. She deserves to fight for this title right after she lost to Holly Holm. It’s been a while, more than a year, where she’s been out of the competition, but I’m very happy for her. I’m very happy for Ronda. I’m happy for Amanda because she can defend the title against one of the best athletes ever.”

“I think it’s going to be very difficult fight for both of them, but both of them are very, very strong,” Jedrzejczyk said. “Not just physically, but mentally as well. I don’t know who is going to win this fight but I will be watching.”

Jedrzejczyk is coming off of a dominant win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 back in November, where she made her fourth successful title defense.

The fight between Nunes and Rousey is certainly a high-stakes fight. While the women’s bantamweight championship is on the line of course, if Rousey emerges victorious, she very well could find herself in a position to rematch Holly Holm, who is currently set to fight for the inaugural women’s featherweight title in February.
