Over the weekend, Russian publication RT made a huge error, using a photo of UFC featherweight and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in a Twitter post titled “Transgender Athletes are DESTROYING Women’s Sports.” Unsurprisingly, this blunder did not go over well among fight fans, and the outlet promptly deleted the video and apologized to Nunes.

Boxing champ Claressa Shields is ready to make her MMA debut, and is willing to do so against the best female mixed martial in the game today, two-division champ Amanda Nunes. The undisputed middleweight champion Shields has two gold medals and a multitude of world titles in two different weight classes. At just 24 years of age, Shields has a long list of athletic accomplishments. She has a scheduled boxing match against Ivana Habazin on October 5th in Michigan. If she wins, she could become a three-division champ in record time.

The two fought back at UFC 232, when Nunes moved up in weight and shockingly knocked Cyborg out in just 51 seconds. Since then, the former featherweight champion and the UFC had arguments over whether or not she wanted the rematch.

Cris Cyborg is no longer a member of the UFC after completing her contract and then being released by Dana White. With that, the possibility of the Amanda Nunes rematch seems unlikely. Many wanted that fight to happen, including UFC president, Dana White, both fighters and now Cyborg’s coach in Jason Parillo. He says that is the only fight that makes sense for the former featherweight champion. ‘JP’ added that no other opponent or fight is an exciting option for Cyborg.

However, the media spotlight has often glazed over the champion and shone a light on her former adversaries.

Yet, that is not the case as at UFC 240, the Brazilian legend will take on Felicia Spencer. At UFC 239, which went down in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nunes defended her bantamweight strap with a first-round TKO victory over former champion Holly Holm — one of the few established bantamweight contenders remaining that she had not yet fought.
