VIDEO | Dan Hardy and John Gooden break down Amanda Nunes vs. Ronda Rousey
In November of 2015, dominant women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey stepped onto the canvas with a widely unheralded challenger in Holly Holm. Though Rousey was expected by most to blow through her challenger, she was ultimately turned off by a second round head kick in one of the biggest upsets in the history of our sport. She has not been seen in the Octagon since.
Luckily for Rousey’s legions of fans, that will soon change. The former champion is scheduled for a comeback fight in the main event of Friday’s UFC 207, where she will take on the bantamweight division’s new champion Amanda Nunes.
In advance of this fight, Rousey has been afforded unprecedented leniency in terms of media obligations – she’s expected to do precisely zero interviews before the fight. That said, the UFC is churning out plenty of Rousey-centric promotional material. One of the latest examples of this material is UFC 207’s episode of Inside the Octagon.
Inside the Octagon, which is hosted by UFC commentator John Gooden and former welterweight title challenger turned commentator Dan Hardy, shines a light on the technical subtleties of upcoming fights. Given the dynamism and talent of both Nunes and Rousey, Hardy and Gooden’s breakdown of this fight is particularly interesting. Watch it in full at the top of this article!
Nunes will enter her title defense against Rousey having won the divisional crown with a first-round mauling of Miesha Tate in July. Prior to that win, she defeated elite competition in Valentina Shevchenko and Sara McMann.
Rousey, meanwhile, preceded her loss to Holm with a run of 12 wins and zero defeats. During this undefeated start to her career, she bested competition like Sarah Kaufman, Miesha Tate (twice), Liz Carmouche, Sara McMann, Cat Zingano, and Bethe Correia.
