Anderson Silva apologizes for comments about UFC

While interim UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is still unhappy with the UFC brass given that they didn’t force UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor to take a fight with him after his UFC 202 majority decision win over Nate Diaz, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has taken a step back.

After it was announced that Conor McGregor would be moving to lightweight to fight Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205, rather than drop back down to featherweight for a rematch with Jose Aldo, who he knocked out in 13 seconds in December of 2013, Aldo requested his release from the promotion with the intention to retire and move to another sport entirely.

Shortly after former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva spoke out about the UFC, saying that he was unhappy with the way he was treated after he stepped in on 48 hours notice to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 after Jon Jones was forced out of their headlining fight due to a potential USADA anti-doping violation stemming from a random out-of-competition drug test back in June.

Silva previously spoke on the matter in an interview, saying:

“I was very disappointed with the lack of respect that the UFC has been treating the Brazilian athletes with. I’m an athlete who took the sport to another level. I don’t get, or have got, people’s due respect. This has made me very upset, sad, and disappointed with the UFC.”

“I will say it again: I’m very disappointed with the way they’ve been treating me, I’m very saddened by all of this,” he said. “I wasn’t the one who said I was the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Dana White said it. Maybe he said it to promote his event, or because he really felt that way. We’ll never know the truth.”

Now, after UFC President Dana White stated that Silva has no reason to complain, ‘The Spider’ seems to have taken a step back. In a recent interview with TMZ he stated:

“You know, definitely I need to say sorry for everything that happened with the UFC because Dana White is Dana White.”
