Considering Silva is now 46 years old and was facing an opponent a decade younger than him in a sport in which he hasn’t competed in 16 years, it was impressive to see “The Spider” turn back the clock and win the fight against Chavez Jr. Now that he’s back in the win column, there is expected to be a ton of interest in working with the Paul brothers.

It was an impressive showing by “The Spider,” who showed that he still has the reflexes and punching skills this late into his combat sports career. It was a big win for Silva, who by beating Chavez Jr. could potentially set himself up for other big paydays in the world of boxing going forward. Anderson Silva has issued a statement after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. missed weight for their boxing match on Saturday night in Mexico. Silva, who is set for his first fight since his UFC release, was set to cut down to 182lbs to face Chavez Jr. who normally competes around the 160-175lbs mark. Silva made the weight while Chavez Jr. came in 2.4 pounds heavy. According to the Mexican, he thought the bout was taking place at 185lbs due to the fact that was the weight Silva fought at in the UFC. Despite his claim, Chavez Jr. still came in heavy and forfeited $100,000 to Silva for the weight miss.

The UFC legend struggled in the last few years of his career in the Octagon and UFC president Dana White decided to give the 45-year-old Silva his release from the promotion. Weidman suffered one of the worst injuries we have ever seen in UFC history when he broke his leg on a Uriah Hall checked kick in the first round of their middleweight bout at last weekend’s UFC 261 pay-per-view event. As soon as the kick landed, Weidman went down to the ground in a heap of incredible pain. The former UFC middleweight champion shockingly broke his leg in the same fashion that Silva himself broke it at UFC 168 in 2013. The fact that Weidman broke it in the same exact what is an incredible coincidence.
