Roy Jones Jr. wants Anderson Silva on Mayweather vs. McGregor card

Mayweather vs. McGregor may not be the only fight where a UFC fighter steps into the boxing ring. While Conor McGregor may be taking a hiatus from the Octagon ahead of the upcoming birth of his firstborn child, the UFC lightweight champion has continued to make headlines as talks of a potential superfight with Floyd Mayweather have continued to surface. While there has reportedly been progress made in regards to negotiations for the boxing match, Floyd Mayweather and UFC President Dana White have both maintained that the fight is not official.

With that being said however, UFC welterweight contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, who shares a manager with McGregor, recently revealed in an exclusive interview with BJPenn.com that the fight is close!

“Those guys are still making multi millions of dollars,” he said. “I think that [$100 million] is what Mayweather originally wanted. But I know they kind of negotiated down. But yea I think it is going to happen man – from the talk of it anyway. I mean, my manager is Conor McGregor’s manager, and it looks like the deal is almost done. It is getting closer and closer.”

Now, with a Mayweather vs. McGregor boxing match looking closer than ever, Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. is looking to cash in on the hype of a boxing match with Anderson Silva, calling the UFC legend out on social media, saying:

Jones Jr. of course has been on a rather impressive win streak despite nearing 50 years old, going 2-0 over the course of 2016 before then winning the vacant WBF cruiserweight title earlier this year when he TKOd Bobby Gunn.

Silva on the other hand just recently returned to the win column after going on a 2-fight skid that saw him drop back to back losses under strange circumstances. After returning a suspension, Silva stepped into the Octagon with Michael Bisping in London for a highly anticipated showdown. In that fight, Silva dropped Bisping at the end of the 3rd round with a flying knee, while many believed the fight should have been stopped, Bisping was allowed to continue at the start of the 4th and ultimately went on to win a unanimous decision. Following that, Silva stepped in on 48 hours notice to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 after Jon Jones was pulled from the fight.
