After a late October 2015 loss to the ever dangerous Rose Namajunas, strawweight striker Angela Hill was released from the UFC. This, of course, was not the end of the road for the 30-year-old.
Following her release from the UFC, Hill embarked on a 4-0 run in Invicta Fighting Championships, ultimately winning and defending the organization’s strawweight crown. This applause-worthy run in the Invicta cage showed that she is undoubtedly a UFC caliber fighter.
As such, Hill was called upon to replace the injured Maryna Moroz against the streaking Jessica Andrade at UFC 207. Though negotiations for this short-notice bout were apparently coming along nicely, Hill recently took to Twitter with a video explaining that she will not be able to return to the UFC’s Octagon this December as planned.
Watch that video at the top of this article.
This unfortunate twist, Hill explained, is due to a bizarre policy that requires fighters returning to the Octagon spend four months in the USADA testing pool before returning to competition.
“I really wanted to get one more fight in this year,” she explained. “I thought it was going to be a really good fight for me. I knew I could beat her. I’m really sorry. I just wanted to let all my fans know that I’m not ducking her, I’m not a punk. I was ready to jump in there when no one else wanted to and fight a really tough opponent and have a great fight and put on a show for the fans. But it’s not gonna happen this year.”
While this testing period will keep Hill out of competition for the remainder of the year, it’s worth reminding that it was infamously waived for the cash cow Brock Lesnar in advance of UFC 200. Do you think it should have been waived for Hill too? Or should it be abolished altogether? Sound off, PENN Nation!
