Daniel Cormier out of UFC 206 title fight against Anthony Johnson
Unfortunate news comes a day after Thanksgiving for MMA fans.
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 206 main event title fight scheduled against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson due to an injury, according to a report from MMA Fighting.
The UFC is busy working to find another main event for the event set to take place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. According to the report from MMA Fighting, the UFC plans to keep Johnson on the card. The UFC has yet to make any official announcement on Cormier’s injury or an opponent for Johnson.
UFC 206 has taken a huge hit this week as it was officially announced earlier in the week that Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy was also canceled due to Evans having licensing issues with the Ontario Athletic Commission.
Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis was set to serve as the co-main event of the card with Cormier vs. Johnson originally set to headline the event.
The current UFC 206 card has the following fights scheduled:
Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis
Donald Cerrone vs. Matt Brown
Cub Swanson vs. Doo Ho Choi
Nikita Krylov vs. Misha Cirkunov
Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Drew Dober
Valerie Letourneau vs. Viviane Pereira
John Makdessi vs. Landon Vannata
Jason Saggo vs. Rustam Khabilov
Mitch Gagnon vs. Matthew Lopez
Zach Makovsky vs. Dustin Ortiz
Emil Weber Meek vs. Jordan Mein
