Tim Kennedy offered to fight Anthony Johnson at UFC 206

bjpenndotcom - November 26, 2016

This week, unfortunate news surfaced that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier had been forced out of his UFC 206 main event scrap against Anthony Johnson with a groin injury. While Cormier was forced out of the fight, it was revealed shortly after that he intended to return to the Octagon in March. With Cormier’s withdrawal from the event, the UFC has been looking for a replacement opponent for Anthony Johnson, however given that Johnson has not only defeated, but knocked out, every fighter in the top 5 of the light heavyweight division, the promotion has been struggling to find him a replacement opponent.

Glover Teixeira Recounts KO Loss to Anthony "Rumble" Johnson: He Was the Strongest Guy to Ever Hit Me

Tom Taylor - November 2, 2016

Earlier this year, in the co-main event of the massively hyped UFC 202, Brazilian light heavyweight Glover Teixeira looked to reassert himself as a legitimate title contender with a win over Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Unfortunately for Teixeira, he would instead become the latest man to crumble under Rumble’s legendary punching power. He hit the canvas just 13 seconds into the first round. In a recent interview with AG Fight (via Bloody Elbow), Teixeira recounted this violent loss, explaining that he simply didn’t have time to get to work with his grappling skill.

Jon Jones Explains Why He'd Rather Fight "Rumble" than "DC"

Tom Taylor - October 26, 2016

On December 10, in the main event of UFC 206, Daniel Cormier will defend the UFC light heavyweight title against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. As significant as this bout is, however, it will have a shadow cast over it by one man: former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Jones won the divisional crown in early 2011 with a third-round TKO of light heavyweight legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. From there, he cut through the division like a buzzsaw, fending off game challengers in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira and Cormier, experiencing only a few moments of adversity along the way. By the time he’d defended his title against Cormier, he stood at as not only the greatest light heavyweight ever, but also one of the greatest fighters ever – period.

bjpenndotcom - October 20, 2016

On December 30th, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and top ranked light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson will step into the Octagon in the main event of UFC 206 in a highly anticipated rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship. The pair first met inside the Octagon in 2015, when they fought for Jon Jones’ vacant light heavyweight championship. Johnson was initially slated to fight Jones at the event, however after a hit-and-run incident, Jones was pulled from the card and stripped of the belt, which subsequently led the promotion to replace Jones with Daniel Cormier. After weathering an early storm from ‘Rumble’ Cormier managed to utilize his wrestling to wear Johnson out, ultimately winning the fight via 3rd round submission to claim the vacant light heavyweight championship.

On December 10, in the main event of UFC 206, Daniel Cormier will attempt to defend the UFC light heavyweight title against streaking contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Cormier will enter the bout having recently defeated middleweight great Anderson “The Spider” Silva in a last-minute, non-title light heavyweight showdown on the main card of UFC 200. Rumble, meanwhile, will enter the fight with three straight knockout victories behind him, having recently snuffed Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and most recently, former title challenger Glover Teixeira. Whoever emerges as the victor of this bout will stand out as the bona fide best light heavyweight currently competing in the UFC.

bjpenndotcom - September 21, 2016

Last month at UFC 202, Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson picked up a spectacular 1st round knockout win over Glover Teixeira to cement his place at the top of the UFC’s light heavyweight division. Following the win, Johnson called out UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for a highly anticipated rematch for the light heavyweight championship. Cormier verbally agreed to the bout, and with Jon Jones currently sidelined with his NSAC appeal, all signs pointed to the pair having a fight sooner rather than later.

Daniel Cormier Vows to Stand and Bang with "Rumble" Johnson in Rematch

Tom Taylor - September 18, 2016

In May of 2015, Daniel Cormier and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson fought for the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. In the end, Cormier would use his Olympic-caliber wrestling to ground this fight and lock up a fight-winning rear-naked choke in the third round. Yet the Olympian very nearly didn’t escape the first round, as he was nearly finished by a rocket-fuelled Rumble punch just moments after the bout began. Today, Cormier has been elevated from interim champion to undisputed champion, and Rumble has bounced back from his loss to Cormier with three straight knockout wins. As such, a title rematch between the two light heavyweights appears to be imminent.
