In the main event of UFC Austin, a battle of top 10 lightweights went down as Arman Tsarukyan took on Beneil Dariush. Tsarukyan entered the fight on a two-fight win streak and was coming off a TKO win over Joaquim Silva in his most previous effort. It was also his second UFC main event after he dropped a controversial decision to Mateusz Gamrot last year. Dariush, meanwhile, was set for his first UFC main event and was coming off a first-round knockout loss to Charles Oliveira in June.

There, Arman Tsarukyan scored a first-round knockout win over Beneil Dariush, his third win in a row. While a big victory, it seems that he was far more happy to watch Jalin Turner vs. Bobby Green.

UFC CEO Dana White believes Arman Tsarukyan’s knockout win at UFC Austin “threw a wrench” into the lightweight title picture. Tsarukyan (21-3 MMA) squared off with perennial 155lbs contender Beneil Dariush (22-6-1 MMA) in the headliner of last night’s Fight Night event in Texas.

The Octagon returned to Texas for tonight’s UFC Austin event, a 12-bout fight card headlined by Beneil Dariush vs. Arman Tsarukyan. The highly anticipated lightweight main event proved to be a coming out party for Arman Tsarukyan. The 27-year-old Armenian was able to land a big knee to punch combination on Dariush in the opening minute, which sent the veteran crashing to the Octagon canvas. From there, Tsarukyan promptly finished the bout with ground and pound.

Dariush (22-5-1 MMA) will be looking to rebound, this after suffering a first-round knockout loss to Charles Oliveira in his most recent effort at June’s UFC 289 event. Prior to that setback, the 34-year-old had put together an eight-fight winning streak.

It’s a pivotal fight for the division as the winner will likely be a win away from a title shot. Tsarukyan is currently a sizeable betting favorite to get his hand raised on Saturday.

New footage of the hotel altercation between Arman Tsarukyan and Bobby Green has been released. It was revealed earlier this week that Tsarukyan and Green had an altercation at the hotel but what started it was uncertain. Green took to his Instagram to claim Tsarukyan approached him with his team, which forced ‘King’ to punch one of them.

Heading into the fight, Dariush is a sizeable +250 underdog while the Armenian is a -310 favorite. Tsarukyan is set to headline the card against Beneil Dariush, while Green will face Jalin Turner in the co-main event. However, in the lead-up to the event, Green has taken shots at Tsarukyan calling him a boring and terrible fighter and someone he would never fight.

Tsarukyan made his UFC debut on short notice at UFC St. Petersburg in July of 2019 against Makhachev. Tsarukyan entered the contest as a sizeable betting underdog, but was able to make the fight much closer than many expected. Makhachev ultimately got the unanimous decision win, but Arman proved he could hang with the division’s best.

The Armenian-Russian has found himself at the number eight spot on the official UFC 155-pound rankings. He’s fresh off a third-round TKO victory over Joaquim Silva at UFC Vegas 75. It’s the second straight win for Arman Tsarukyan. After the fight, Tsarukyan blasted Michael Chandler for thinking a lucrative fight with Conor McGregor will actually come to fruition.

Dariush had hoped to face Charles Oliveira at March’s pay-per-view event, but the fight wasn’t booked until UFC 288 in May. However, just under a month out, it was revealed Oliveira had suffered a minor injury and the fight would be pushed back to UFC 289 in June.

UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler isn’t very interested in facing Arman Tsarukyan next. ‘Iron’ has been out of action since his clash with Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 last November. In that outing in New York City, the two lightweights put on a ‘Fight of the Year’ contender. In round three, ‘The Diamond’ wrapped up a rear-naked choke to earn the submission win.
