Women’s bantamweight contender Aspen Ladd has been released from the UFC. The 27-year-old has been out of action since her bout with Raquel Pennington in April. At UFC 273, ‘Rocky’ scored a unanimous decision victory. The loss was the second in a row for Ladd, who previously lost to Norma Dumont up at 145-pounds.

Last Saturday night at UFC 273, Aspen Ladd fell short in her return to bantamweight as she suffered a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Raquel Pennington. The loss dropped her pro MMA record to 9-3 and marked her third defeat in a four-fight span, leaving many to wonder where her future lies.

The feud began after Tate blasted Ladd and her coach and boyfriend in Jim West for the way West yelled at her inside the Octagon during the Norma Dumont fight. Tate, who faces Ketlen Vieira in a bantamweight main event this weekend, voiced her criticism of Ladd earlier this year. The comments came as a result of Ladd missing weight for her contest with Macy Chiasson, forcing the bout to be cancelled due to concerns for Ladd’s health.

Dumont entered the fight coming off an upset win over Felicia Spencer which was her second in a row as she beat Ashlee Evans-Smith by decision after failing to make weight at 135lbs. Ladd, meanwhile, was returning for the first time since December of 2019 after having knee surgery and two canceled fights including one two weeks ago due to a bad weight cut.

UFC women’s featherweight contender Norma Dumont reacted following her career-best victory over Aspen Ladd in the main event of UFC Vegas 40. One of the very few 145lbs women’s featherweights on the UFC roster, Dumont was originally set to face former UFC Holly Holm in this fight. However, Holm was replaced by Ladd on short notice due to injury, and Dumont entered the fight as the underdog against a highly-ranked opponent in Ladd. Despite being the underdog, though, Dumont put on another solid performance as she won a unanimous decision in her first five-round fight. Dumont is now 3-1 overall in the UFC and is proving herself as a legit contender at 145lbs.

Coach Jim West issued a statement following his corner advice to Aspen Ladd in her UFC Vegas 40 main event loss on Saturday night. West is Ladd’s head coach at MMA GOLD as well as her boyfriend and longtime partner. During Saturday’s main event fight featuring Ladd and Norma Dumont, West’s coaching tactics in-between rounds were met with criticism. The coach appeared to be visibly upset with his fighter and he had to raise his voice in order to get her attention. There were fans, media, and fellow fighters who took to social media and criticized West for his coaching advice. Even UFC commentator Michael Bisping was not a fan of his corner advice.

Unfortunately, one of the fights was scratched due to non-COVID 19 health issues when Julian Marquez did not weigh-in for his middleweight fight against Jordan Wright. This means that this exciting UFC Vegas 40 fight has been canceled from tomorrow’s event.

Originally booked to face Macy Chiasson in July, Chiasson would suffer an injury thus rescheduling the bout for the start of October. However, Ladd tipped the scales overweight at 137-pounds resulting in the bout’s cancellation – along with critique from fellow bantamweight such as former champion, Miesha Tate.
