Jiu-Jitsu Currently Providing UFC Fighter, Augusto Mendes with Bigger Paychecks

By Drake Riggs - December 12, 2017

Augusto Mendes is a 6-2 UFC Bantamweight fighter. Just this past Saturday, he competed in the ACB Jiu-Jitsu no-gi 60kg Grand Prix where he won the tournament by defeating the likes of Milton Bastos under twenty seconds, Jao Miyao and lastly, Samir Chantre with a fifth-round guillotine.

Mendes’ main career pursuit is to be the best in MMA and the UFC but after speaking with MMA Fighting recently, he let it be known that a career in just Jiu-Jitsu is definitely an option outside of MMA financially.

Mendes claimed that if you compare how much he earned in his last UFC fight with top 135er, Aljamain Sterling to his Jiu-Jitsu matches, he made double what he did in his matches than his UFC fight.

Regardless, MMA is Mendes’ #1 priority and he just wants a fight as soon as possible. He doesn’t care who’s next but he’s eyeing UFC 222 on March 3 in Las Vegas. Mendes isn’t opposed to competing in Jiu-Jitsu once more before his hopeful next fight date either. I mean…why not, right?

His only two MMA losses have come to Aljamain Sterling and former UFC champion, Cody Garbrandt. Who should he fight next?
