BJPENN.COM’S FIST-ta-CUFF Radio Show 172 Shah Bobonis, Josh Sampo, Jamie Yager, & Michael Chandler
BJPenn.com’s FIST-ta-CUFF Radio is back for another week of MMA and if you don’t know We DON’T Pull Punches! This week we have a wide variety of guests. We have a man who is getting ready to get one step closer to his goal of fighting in the UFC, after that a Gremlin is invading the barber shop. We kick off the second hour with a man who’s talent and hair are both HUGE, with a champ wrapping up the show.
Our first guest is no stranger to this show and no stranger to the win column. Shah Bobonis is on a 7 fight win streak and coming off a very impressive win against Cornelius Godfrey in his XFC debut. Shah is now set to take on Pablo Alfonso at CFA 9 on January 19, 2013 in Coral Gables, FL. Get ready to get to know one of the best 135 lb. fighters in the nation not in the UFC. Shah is a man never to shy away from a challenge or a fight and was even willing to step up to fight Leonard Garcia on short notice when his original opponent was injured. Shah is not just a fighter, but a real athlete. Shah hasn’t always been a fighter he actually got his start swinging a bat not his fists. Shah has connections like he was part of the MMA Mob. From working with Dominick Cruz, Stephen Bass, and even Muhsin Corbbrey. Shah has huge goals for himself and he’s built a solid foundation under those goals, get ready to get to know a man you better keep an eye on as 2013 is just kicking off. Get over to Twitter and follow Shah @ShahBobonis
You know the rule of not feeding a Mogwai after midnight, well I think someone broke that rule. We got a Gremlin in the house and his name isn’t Spike it’s Josh Sampo and something says it won’t be long until you see him wrecking shop in the UFC. Josh is set to take on Alexis Vila at CFA 9 and with a win there it could mean big things for the Gremlin. Josh is coming off a huge win over Antonio Banuelos back in September and I can’t think of how the competition can get any better outside the UFC. Josh trains out of St. Charles MMA with other monsters like Alp and Ashley Cummins. We will talk to Josh about the upcoming fight, his training and being the next fighter to put St. Charles MMA on the map, how he got into the sport, and of course what he believes 2013 holds in store for him. Josh is another hot prospect that we want to introduce you too, before you see him all over your TV inside the UFC. Get ready cause I know Josh will be.
The man kicking off the second hour has a story I can’t wait to talk about and it all starts on BET. You read that right, I said his MMA career started on BET. Jamie Yager is in the shop and is ready to talk his Bellator MMA debut. Yager was a multiple sport athlete before he ever put on a pair of 4 oz. gloves. Jamie played Baseball, Football, and Wrestled in High School before heading out to College where he played football. Jamie got started in MMA by doing some BJJ at a local gym, he later got a call from Juanito Ibarra about appearing on BET’s Iron Ring and well the story continues from there. We will talk with Jamie about his time in the Ultimate Fighter House, getting a chance to fight for Bellator MMA, his goals for the rest of the year, how crazy his journey into the sport has been, and you know we have to talk a little about his hair. I mean this is the barber shop and the man might be rocking some of the tightest hair game in the sport. Before we get Jamie up in the shop do yourself the favor and get over to twitter and follow Mr. Yager @JamieYager
You know I mentioned earlier that we have a champ wrapping things up and a champ is what you’re going to get. This man knows a thing about taking the long road to get what you want. Michael Chandler has worked his way to the top spot without a single shortcut. Chandler didn’t just get a title shot in Bellator he was a product of the tournament format and even took on the Bellator reigning champ Eddie Alvarez in what many believed could have been fight of the year. Michael is set to take on a man who has taken a similar route to get his title shot in Rick Hawn on January 17, in Irvine, CA. We will talk to Michael about his time in the sport, the long road he has taken to get to this point in his career, his upcoming fight and so much more. Michael made the move to Alliance MMA in San Diego from Xtreme Couture last year and we will talk to Mike about how he has benefited from the move and what spurred it. I can’t wait to talk to a man who is the definition of hard work and the results that come from it. Like I said Michael has never been given anything in this sport, he has worked for every thing he has and that being said I don’t think the man is done punching his time card any time soon. Get ready cause the champ is going to bring everything he has in this interview. Follow Michael on twitter @MikeChandlerMMA.
The show starts at 7:30 PM PST 10:30 PM EST and Phone lines are open all show 646-915-9927 and we love to have listeners voice your thoughts and get in your questions.
