EXCLUSIVE | AJ Agazarm looking to conquer world of MMA, tells Dillon Danis to ‘f*ck off’

Along with the deciding of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix winner at Bellator 214, we’ll be treated to two intriguing MMA debuts.

One of which belongs to the Florida born grappling ace, AJ Agazarm who takes on Jesse Roberts this Saturday night.

Although the talented lightweight doesn’t like the term ‘grappler’ all too much, that’s exactly what he is.

Agazarm is a D1 college wrestler turned BJJ black belt. His long list of notable achievements include wins over the likes of high-level BJJ players like Davi Ramos, Vagner Rocha, Herbert Burns, and former Bellator bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao

Recently, we’ve seen an influx of talented BJJ wizards enter into MMA such as Garry Tonon and Dillon Danis.

“I’m looking to fight,” AJ Agazarm told BJPenn.com at Bellator 214’s media day. “That’s what this is. It’s two guys stepping into the cage trying to rip each other’s heads off. Trying to submit one another, trying to do whatever they can with their arsenal to get the job done. It’s super competitive.

“I’ve accomplished everything there was, I conquered the world of Jiu-Jitsu, got a college degree in wrestling college. What left is there to do? But to fight.”

With such a background comes expectations which could presumably build pressure.

For AJ Agazarm though, he doesn’t know if people are thinking he’ll win. Just that they’ll see a battle between two mixed martial artists.

“I don’t know if people expect me to win, I think people just expect there to be a fight,” Agazarm said. “I think people know and they’ve been tuning in long enough to see that any event that I’m involved in, whether it’s a Jiu-Jitsu match or whatever it is, it’s entertainment but it’s also a technical show.

“It’s like an exhibit. It’s like an art gallery.”

As for the aforementioned Danis, who is now Agazarm’s fellow Bellator stablemate, the talk has been about whether or not the two will meet in the cage one day rather than on the mats.

“I’m looking for a challenge and guys that are gonna push me and really make it something that’s spectacular,” Agazarm stated. “Do you think Dillon Danis possesses that ability? Why am I gonna go through this whole rigamarole of media, and the traveling and all this stuff to fight Dillon Danis who offers no value to me whatsoever as a martial artist? He hasn’t accomplished anything in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he’s a kid and just fought an Uber driver. Tell him to f*ck off.”

One thing is for certain, Agazarm is looking to dominate yet another facet of combat sports and adds to the wave of talented submission specialists.
