Joe Warren warns Bellator 143 opponent L.C. Davis: ‘Get ready for an a** beating!’

“The Baddest Man on the Planet” Joe Warren has his sights set on what he feels is rightfully his: The Bellator Bantamweight Championship. First, Warren will have to make his way through former WEC fighter L.C. Davis this Friday in the main-event of Bellator 143 in Hidalgo, Texas.

Long before names like Josh Thomson, Phil Davis and Kimbo Slice made their way to Bellator, Joe Warren was one of the foundations of the young company. The Olympian made his promotional debut back at Bellator 13 in 2010 with a dominant victory over Eric Marriott. Since then, he has gone on to capture the attention of fans and media alike with his unique pre-fight talk. While some would call his pre-fight banter “trash talk”, Warren states it’s more of a warning of fact than anything.

“It isn’t really trash talking. It’s just bottom line, the truth. People just don’t like to hear it,” Warren told BJPENN.COM. “I like to throw the truth out there and people like to get upset about it. I just like to verbally assault them after that. You know me— I put everything I have into that cage.”

Warren started in Bellator as a featherweight fighter, but made the transition back to bantamweight once the promotion debuted the division. He dominated the tournament and went on to secure the interim bantamweight championship at Bellator 118 in New Jersey. Warren was slated to face champion Eduardo Dantas at the event, Dantas was forced to pull out of the fight after an injury. Once Warren defeated Rafael Silva and slung the interim gold over his shoulder, he claimed to feel like the true champion of the division.

“I definitely believed he gave that belt up [when he withdrew from the fight]. For them to throw Rafael Silva in there, which is I believe a tougher fight than Dantas was… it was a battle. I believe I won that belt that day. Then for me to come in there and win the belt again against Dantas was satisfying. It was really satisfying for me to win that belt twice that year and get it done.”

Just over five months after his big win, however, Warren lost the bantamweight title to Marcos Galvao. When asked if he was disappointed he didn’t get an immediate rematch, Warren was blunt. “I deserved that [immediate] rematch and Scott Coker called my house to give me a rematch. We were definitely going to fight here again, and I think Marcos hurt his hand a month or so ago… they put our fight on postpone. They said, ‘You can wait for him or you can fight somebody else.’ Financially, I need to fight right now. I got babies and bills to pay so I’m jumping in the cage against L.C. Davis and I will get the winner between Galvao and Dantas.”

Warren respects Davis’ game, but he plans to show him he is dealing with the “Baddest Man on the Planet” this Friday. “He’s a wrestler, bottom line, so he’s durable,” Warren said. “His durability is what we’ve been focused on— trying to break it. He’s longer and he’s a lefty. He’s a little taller than me, he’s a little lanky… I want to take his heart right away in that fight and I’m going to make him understand who he is in that cage with.”
