Matt Mitrione (13-6 MMA) entered tonight’s contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Bader at Bellator 207.

Prior to his loss to “Darth”, Mitrione had strung together four wins in a row over opponents Carl Seumanutafa, Oli Thompson, Fedor Emelianenko and Roy Nelson.

As for Sergei Kharitonov (28-6 MMA), “The Russian Mercenary” was also last seen in action at October’s Bellator 207 event, where he scored a first round knockout victory over Roy Nelson.

Kharitonov entered tonight’s Bellator 215 main event on a five-fight winning streak.

Unfortunately for fight fans, tonight’s Bellator 215 headliner lasted only seconds, this after Matt Mitrione struck Sergei Kharitonov with an accidental groin strike.

The illegal strike was delivered with some serious force, enough to prevent “The Russian Mercenary” from being able to continue.

That was definitely one of the worst groin shots in mixed martial arts history. Hopefully Sergei Kharitonov will make a full recovery.
