Friday night’s Bellator 144 event was packed with finishes, as well as a title fight, but that wasn’t enough to bring eyes to the fight card.  According to MMAFighting, the event drew in a dismal 555,000 viewers, the lowest of any Scott Coker era Bellator event.

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Josh Koscheck (17-10 MMA) signed a contract with Bellator MMA this past June and is currently awaiting his first opponent from the promotion. The former “Ultimate Fighter Season 1” star was initially slated to make his first Bellator appearance this December at Bellator 147, but instead is now being targeted for a January event.

Bellator made their long-awaited return after a one month layoff between cards with “Bellator 144” which took place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The vacated Bellator Middleweight Championship found a new owner on Friday night when Rafael Carvalho disposed of Brandon Halsey in less than ten minutes with a brutal liver kick. Halsey never lost the title in competition, but rather due to a technicality. He walked into his Bellator 137 bout with Kendall Grove overweight and was stripped of the championship. The only way the championship would leave the cage slung over somebody’s shoulder that night was if Grove were to walk out victorious as Halsey was restricted from winning it.

Friday night Michael Page showed off his ground game against Charlie Ontiveros as he took the fight to the ground and proceeded to shatter Ontiveros’ jaw with elbows from side control.

Yesterday at the Bellator 144 weigh-ins Brennan Ward and Dennis Olson had quite the heated staredown. As a result, we knew tonight’s bout was going to be a fast-paced, high-action one.

Yet another finish on the Bellator 144 card tonight! In the featherweight division Goiti Yamauchi ended up scoring a 3rd round submission win over Isao Kobayashi.

Michael ‘Venom’ Page kicked off the main card of Bellator 144 by picking up a quick TKO win over Charlie Ontiveros. Page secured top control and rained down elbows until the referee stopped the fight due to an injury to Ontiveros’ jaw.

Another fight down and another finish on the preliminary card of Bellator 144 tonight. This time it was Billy Giovanella who scored a 1st round submission win over Brandon Polcare via triangle choke.

Matt Bessette defeated Kevin Roddy via 1st round submission on the preliminary card of Bellator 144. The submission is the 2nd heel hook submission of the night!

On the Bellator 144 preliminary card Kevin Haley and Mike Zichelle fought to a decision. The bout was a bloody one, and ultimately saw Kevin Haley capture the unanimous decision win to bump his professional record to 4-3.

On the online preliminary fights of Bellator 144, Matt Secor put on an impressive Jiu-Jitsu display as he scored a 2nd round submission win via heel hook. The win bumps Secor’s professional record to 7-2.

Officials announced today that the initial Dec. 11 date for Bellator 147 has been changed to take place a week earlier, on Dec. 4, according to MMA Junkie. Fighters already scheduled on the card include lightweights in former Strikeforce champion/UFC vet Josh Thomson (21-8 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) vs. Pablo Villaseca (10-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) as well as featherweights Daniel Weichel (35-9 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) vs. Georgi Karakhanyan (24-4-1 MMA, 2-2 BMMA).
