By Tom Taylor - April 4, 2019

Chael Sonnen is set to return to the cage the summer, and his opponent will be former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. The bout will go down on June 14 inside New York City’s world famous Madison Square Garden.

This news was first reported by ESPN, and subsequently confirmed by MMA Junkie.

Although Chael Sonnen has recently been competing in the heavyweight division, and Lyoto Machida has spent the last six years of his career as a middleweight, this bout will reportedly occur in the 205-pound light heavyweight division.

Sonnen, 30-16-1, will use this bout as an opportunity to rebound from a TKO loss to heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko. In his next most recent fights, he picked up decision victories over MMA legends Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Wanderlei Silva, and fell short against former UFC champ Tito Ortiz.

Machida, on the other hand, currently sits at 25-8-0 in sum. He recently made his Bellator debut with a split decision victory over former middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. His next most recent wins occurred in the UFC’s Octagon, where he knocked out Vitor Belfort with a front kick and defeated Eryk Anders by decision.

Who do you think will win this Chael Sonnen vs. Lyoto Machida fight in NYC?
