Ben Askren suggests that Jorge Masvidal is not secure with his own masculinity
UFC welterweight standouts Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal will collide at July’s UFC 239 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight was put together shortly after “Gamebred” starched former title challenger Darren Till in London.
The trash talk between Askren and Masvidal began to escalate shortly following the promotions official announcement that the perennial welterweight contenders would be squaring off at UFC 239.
Most recently, Ben Askren took that war of words to a new level by questioning Jorge Masvidal’s masculinity at the recent UFC press conference (via MMAJunkie).
“I don’t understand people that just walk up and punch people for not really a good reason,” Askren said in reference to Masvidal’s backstage brawl with Leon Edwards. “For me, it shows two things: No. 1, a total lack of discipline. Like, that’s not cool. You can’t just go punch someone. So you lack the discipline, that you get so angry, you can’t control yourself and you have to start throwing your fists.”
Askren continued:
“And No. 2, that you’re not really secure with your own masculinity that you say, ‘Oh my God, he said something, I need to go prove I’m tough – pay-yow, I am tough.’ Like shut up, dude. We get it, you’re tough. You fight in a cage.”
Ben Askren made his octagon debut earlier this year scoring a controversial submission win over former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.
