Bethe Correia sends Amanda Nunes warning

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes had arguably one of the best years in MMA over the course of 2016. To start the year, Nunes fought top ranked women’s bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko in a highlight anticipated UFC 196 scrap which she won via unanimous decision. In her next fight, Nunes headlined UFC 200, where she won the UFC women’s bantamweight championship by rocking and then submitting Miesha Tate in the first round of their fight. In her very first title defense, Nunes closed out the year by picking up a particularly dominant and impressive 1st round KO win over former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in just 48 seconds.

Following the fight, Nunes didn’t mince words when asked about her opinion of Rousey, stating that the former champ was overrated and was never truly as dominant as she was made out to be. While some members of the MMA community have agreed with Nunes, others have jumped to Rousey’s defense. While not necessarily defending Rousey, former title challenger Bethe Correia has now sent a warning to the champ about being humble.

She spoke to Combate:

“She needs to be careful,” Bethe Correia said. “Amanda is a great fighter. A person must value themselves. I value myself above all things. To me, I’m the best fighter in the UFC. I really believe that. Honestly, I don’t see Amanda as fighter who will dominate the division. I don’t think she’ll beat everyone she fights, like Anderson Silva did. Cat Zingano beat her up, let’s not forget that, it’s a fact.

“She’s really good in the first round, but when she passed the second round she showed no quality in any of her other UFC fights. She needs to watch her mouth. Ronda paid for her excess of arrogance. I, too, had my moments to learn. I think Amanda is going through that right now, of feeling confident. She still has a long way to go.”
