Bill regulating Michigan MMA could go to Government

Although MMA is regulated throughout the majority of the United States, in 13 states it isn’t. Michigan is one of those states, however a new bill that would regulate MMA has been approved and could make it to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

MMA.tv broke the story, which stated that the bill calls for several things:
“Increased promoter and event licensing fees for boxing and MMA events.”
“At least one inspector to be on site during events”
“Contestants have to compete in appropriate weight classes”

Fighters in Michigan currently are not required to undergo pre-fight medical screenings for injuries or diseases. In addition, minors are not banned from competing, ringside doctors are not required, and fighters can compete in multiple fights in one night similar to the early days of the UFC. While some promoters do have medical personnel on site during fight nights, many don’t bother to take proper steps to ensure fighter safety.
