Cole Miller says that it is absurd if people think he cannot submit BJ Penn

By Russell Ess - May 23, 2016

Cole Miller is set to make his first fight in the Octagon in 2016 when he steps in to face UFC Hall of Fame legend BJ Penn at UFC 199 on June 4.

Miller was given the fight on short notice after Penn’s original opponent Dennis Siver was pulled from the bout due to an injury.

While Penn is praised for his jiu-jitsu skills being the first non-brazilian to win a world championship in the black belt category, Miller says that given the right opportunity, anyone can be submitted.

“I’m going to give you an honest answer: Anybody with a blue belt level in grappling can submit any other man under the right conditions,” Miller told MMAjunkie Radio.

Miller says that conditioning could be the determining factor in their fight.

“We’re going see what round it goes into, or who’s got the best conditioning, and that’s going to make the difference,” Miller said. “But to say that I won’t or can’t submit B.J. is a farce, and to say he can’t do the same thing to me is a farce, too.”

If Miller is able to secure a submission victory over Penn on June 4, it would be a great feat with Penn never having lost in his professional mixed martial arts career by submission. Miller adds that regardless of if the fight stays on their feet or goes to the ground, he will be ready to implement his will.

“I don’t try to fight in a certain arena. When you watch me fight, you’ll see that. I’ll fight anywhere it goes.”
