Brock Lesnar responds to Jon Jones’ recent comments

By Tom Taylor - July 26, 2017

Earlier this week, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones generated headlines by expressing interest in a hypothetical showdown with former heavyweight champion and current WWE star Brock Lesnar.

“I would love to fight Brock Lesnar,” Jones during a live Facebook Q&A in the buildup to his Saturday night showdown with reigning light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier. “He’s a massive dude, it would be a massive draw. Really big for the sport. It would be a great challenge. That’s a big, old boy. I doubt Brock Lesnar would take that fight, though.”

Surprisingly, it did not take long for the typically media-averse Lesnar to respond. Though he is currently under contract with WWE, he assured this is a fight he would absolutely take. He does, however, believe the former champ’s focus should be glued to Cormier, not future money fights at heavyweight.

“Would I fight Jon Jones? Anytime, anywhere,” Lesnar told the AP (via MMAFighting.com). “Right now he should be worried about D.C. on Saturday night.”

Though rumors recently surfaced that Lesnar had re-entered the USADA testing pool, which would seem to signal a UFC return, these rumors were quickly stomped out by UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky. Novitzky assured MMAFighting.com that Lesnar had not re-entered the testing pool, and that he still had some time left on the suspension he received for his failed UFC 200 drug test (because he retired halfway through his sentence).

Jones has not been seen in action since April of 2016, when he picked up a unanimous decision win over Ovince St. Preux. Lesnar, meanwhile, has not competed in MMA since UFC 200 in July of 2016, when he defeated Mark Hunt by decision but ultimately had his win overturned.
