Bruce Buffer backtracks on Nate Diaz comments, clarifies on what he meant by “bow”

Over the weekend, UFC Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer made some comments about lightweight contender Nate Diaz. Buffer explained that, in his opinion, Nate Diaz’s bellicose attitude toward the UFC is unwarranted. In fact, he said that he felt that Diaz should “bowing” to UFC President Dana White.

Bruce Buffer, UFC 249

“Nate, I heard you made 7 or more million dollars in your last fight,” Buffer told TMZ. “I don’t want to hear you complaining about being under promoted by the UFC. You should be thanking the UFC and bowing to Dana White every time you see him. [Endeavor co-CEOs] Ari Emanuel, Patrick Whitesell.”

“You got 7 or more million dollars gross before taxes, maybe much more,” he added. “Which I love knowing that you have, Nate. Please, I don’t want to hear any more complaints.”

In a rather unsurprising twist, Bruce Buffer telling Nate Diaz to bow to the billionaires who run to the UFC did not go over well with the MMA community. And when these comments reached Diaz’s ears, he reacted just as we all expected.

“Bruce Buffer wtf get off the Ufc nuts your bowing down right now tellling me to bow down? fuck that u keep bowing down,” Diaz said in a fiery Tweet. “I Bow down to no one ever for all the money in the world…”

Perhaps having had his fill of the backlash he received from Nate Diaz and the fans, Bruce Buffer has now backtracked on his controversial comments. In a followup Tweet directed at Diaz, the UFC announcer clarified on what he meant by “bow.”

“With all respect Nate that is not what I meant by saying the word ‘bow’, I meant it as a sign of respect as in when greeting someone, not a sign of submission as I’d never expect you to do that for anyone,” he said.”

What do you think of this explanation from Bruce Buffer?
