BREAKING! Bryan Caraway is out of next weekend's UFC Fight Night 103 event

Fast rising UFC bantamweight contender Bryan Caraway (21-7 MMA) has been forced out of next weekend’s UFC Fight Night 103 event in Phoenix, Arizona. Caraway suffered an undisclosed injury in training and will no longer be able to compete at the January 15 event according to MMAJunkie.

On January 15th, the UFC will return to Phoenix, Arizona. The card will be topped by a battle between rising Mexican featherweight Yair Rodriguez, and our very own BJ Penn, who will be returning after more than two years away from the sport. The UFC announced three new fights added to the Phoenix event.

Late last month, it was announced that a bantamweight title fight between champion Dominick Cruz and undefeated challenger Cody Garbrandt would be co-headlining UFC 207. Earlier this morning, news surfaced that another high profile bantamweight bout between former champ TJ Dillashaw and streaking contender John Lineker was close to being finalized for the same card. Barring a major shakeup, the winner of this latter fight will likely fight the winner of Cruz vs. Garbrandt for the title sometime in 2017. For fans of the bantamweight division, these announcements came as excellent news. Not everyone, however, is particularly thrilled about these bookings.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the next crack at Dominick Cruz’s UFC bantamweight title would go to undefeated contender Cody Garbrandt. This bantamweight championship bout will fill the co-main event spot of a stacked UFC 207 on December 30. Given the way Cruz and Garbrandt match up on paper, and the fact that they’ve built up a pretty compelling rivalry over the last few months, the announcement of this matchup was pretty well-received.

Back in March, in the co-main event of UFC 196, Miesha Tate submitted Holly Holm to claim the UFC women’s bantamweight championship. In less than one week, Miesha Tate will look to defend her championship belt on the main card of UFC 200 against Amanda Nunes. In the meantime, Tate’s boyfriend Bryan Caraway, who is the #4 ranked bantamweight, is hoping to secure a title shot against bantamweight kingpin Dominick Cruz.

Sunday night, in the main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: Vegas’ Cody Garbrandt put on a phenomenal show against the previously undefeated Thomas Almeida, as he picked up a 1st round KO win. On the preliminary card, #8 ranked bantamweight Bryan Caraway defeated #4 ranked Aljamain Sterling via split decision. Garbrandt’s win over Almeida put him in the top 5 rankings in the mind’s of many MMA fans.
