Michael Chiesa taps Carlos Condit in round two (highlights)

Tom Taylor - December 29, 2018

The final non-title bout of the UFC 232 main card occurred in the welterweight division, where former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit looked to rebound from a string of losses opposite Michael Chiesa, who was making his debut in the welterweight division after a long run in the lightweight division. Early in this riveting welterweight style matchup, it looked like the surprisingly hulking Michael Chiesa would be able to give Carlos Condit all kinds of problems with his wrestling. As the round wore down, however, Condit was able to threaten with a very tight armbar off his back, and then with a heel hook.

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit accepts fight with "Maverick"

Chris Taylor - September 15, 2018

It appears that former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit (30-12 MMA) is ready to make his return to the octagon. “The Natural Born Killer” was recently called out by former lightweight competitor Michael Chiesa, who told ESPN‘s Ariel Helwani that he hoped to fight Condit in his welterweight debut at December’s UFC 232 event.

One of the MMA world’s most entertaining and fan-friendly fighters to watch has always been “the Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit. Unfortunately for Condit, he’s visibly been on a downward trend in terms of his success recently. Since 2012, the former interim UFC welterweight champion and former WEC welterweight champion, Condit has gone 2-7 in his last 9 and currently rides the worst skid of his career with 4 straight losses, 2 of those that saw him being finished(both by submission).

Eddie Alvarez sends message of "absolute respect" to kindred spirit Carlos Condit

There are a few special fighters who will go down in MMA history based on their propensity for extreme violence in the cage. Former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler is one. Former World Series of Fight lightweight champ Justin Gaethje is another. Then there’s the so-called “most violent man in MMA” Eddie Alvarez. And of course, there’s former interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit, who came up short against Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira in the co-main event of the UFC’s Saturday night stop in Glendale, Arizona…. Shortly after his loss to Cowboy, which came by way of second-round submission, the ever-violent Condit issued a weighty post-fight statement on Instagram, meditating on the defeat itself, and on his future in the sport.

"Cowboy" Oliveira says Carlos Condit went to sleep before tapping in UFC Glendale scrap

Tom Taylor - April 16, 2018

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of the UFC’s return to Glendale, Arizona, former UFC interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit returned to the cage opposite Brazil’s Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira. Cowboy took the fight on just a few weeks’ notice, stepping in to replace the injured Matt Brown. Despite the brevity of his training camp, Cowboy ultimately came out on top in this fight, surviving a few scares to submit Condit with a guillotine choke in the second round. Yet the fight-ending submission did not come easy, as Oliveira had to keep the pressure on for what seemed like eons before Condit finally tapped.

With Matt Brown out, Carlos Condit gets new opponent for UFC Glendale

Tom Taylor - April 4, 2018

If things had gone according to the initial plan, former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit would have battled Matt Brown in the co-main event of the UFC’s April 14 trip to Glendale, AZ. Regrettably, Brown was forced out of the fight with an ACL tear, leaving Condit without an opponent. “Wish it was all April Fools but I did tear my ACL over the weekend,” Brown said in a statement on Twitter. “I hope [Carlos Condit] gets an opponent and doesn’t have to lose out on the opportunity. We’ll do it for sure when I’m back.”

Late Monday evening, Brown confirmed this news, which was first reported by Ariel Helwani.

A Violent Welterweight Scrap is Slated for Mid-April UFC Fight Night

Justin Golightly - January 18, 2018

Carlos Condit: A calculated buzzsaw of a kickboxer. Matt Brown: A relentless muay thai brawler incapable of being counted out or having a bad fight. Somehow, some way, these two have never fought each other before. Call it just coincidence, or perhaps the universe knowing that we simply weren’t ready for the amount of violence these two would produce, it simply never happened. Now it looks like the MMA gods have deemed it time. Carlos Condit and Matt Brown are expected to finally square off at April 17th at a yet to be determined location. VIDEO | Neil Magny Humbly Admits He Has 'No Advantages' Over Carlos Condit

Justin Golightly - December 29, 2017

We’ve all heard the usual pre-fight trash talk in the build-up to an event. Fighters waxing poetically about how they are going to knock out their opponent, predicting which round they may fall, or insulting their like of skills. You will not hear any of that from Neil Magny, who will be stepping into the cage tomorrow against Carlos Condit in his return to the Octagon. On the contrary, Magny is being completely blunt about his perceived chances. He doesn’t see any advantage he has in this fight, but that just excites him. “Yeah, [I don’t have] not one single advantage in this fight [with Carlos Condit]. I mean, reach advantage, cardio advantage, not a single advantage. Everything I want in this fight, we have to fight for that’s something I’m excited about. I’m going to win by going out there and being relentless. We’re going to fight tooth and nail for every single thing I want. I know every punch that I throw is not going to come easy, every kick I throw is not going to come easy, every takedown that I get is not going to come easy, so I know I’m going to have to fight for every single thing that I want in this fight. That’s what’s bringing out the excitement and that’s how Im going to win, by being relentless.”

VIDEO | Carlos Condit May Retire From MMA for the Love of Coffee

Justin Golightly - December 26, 2017

When Carlos Condit lost to Demian Maia back at UFC Vancouver last August, the ‘Natural Born Killer’ contemplated walking away from the sport. After a sabbatical and starting a new coffee business along with partners Ryan and Kaitlin Hoskinson, he’s ready to get back and brew up more violence. Although we may not see Condit in the UFC much longer, according to this conversation over breakfast with MMA Fighting’s photographer Esther Lin. Admitting he never had an exit strategy when he made the decision to be a professional fighter, one of the top welterweights in the world may have finally found one with Hundred Hands coffee. “I don’t know. This [fight at UFC 219] might be a one-off deal. We’ll see. If I can get in there, get a big win, get a bonus, get some money to freakin’ get the coffee thing rolling and be a more substantial thing and like a source of income, this might be it. But maybe not, I don’t know. It’s a hard thing. Once you get a taste of all of it, the adrenaline, all of it, including the money, the pay days. [Fighting is] not an easy way to make money, but it’s the best way that I know to make money. So there’s that. It pays the bills.”

Carlos Condit understands where Tyron Woodley's critics are coming from

Tom Taylor - October 11, 2017

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s last two title defenses, a pair of tepid decision wins over Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia, have generated quite a bit of criticism, as many fans feel he could have done more to pursue a finish over his foes. UFC welterweight contender Carlos Condit, who will return from a long hiatus to battle Neil Magny at UFC 219 this December 30, understands these criticisms against Woodley. “I can definitely see where the critics are coming from,” Condit explained on the latest edition of The MMA Hour. “We’re athletes but we’re also entertainers, people buy the pay-per-view to be entertained. That’s part of this. This is show business. I know that winning is super important and a gameplan is super important, but at some point you have to, this is the hurt business and you gotta try to put your opponent out.”

Earlier this month, on the main card of UFC 206, Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi collided in a fight that had long been considered a frontrunner for Fight of the Night. In the end, the two featherweights surpassed all expectation, delivering a scrap that was not only a shoo in for Fight of the Night honors, but a clear-cut contender for Fight of the Year. The fight, which was contested almost entirely on the feet, saw the two stone-fisted fighters pummel each other to the brink of consciousness, with Swanson ultimately emerging the victor with a unanimous decision.
