Chad Mendes expects Eddie Alvarez fight to be his last - not interested in BKFC title

Chad Mendes is gearing up for a barnburner against Eddie Alvarez at BKFC 41, but believes the clash with his fellow UFC veteran is likely to be his last dance. Speaking in an interview with War Sports, the Team Alpha Male star said,

Mike Perry will square off with former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at BKFC 41 on April 29. BKFC president David Feldman went on The MMA Hour and announced that his promotion has signed former UFC champion Luke Rockhold to fight Mike Perry at 185lbs in the main event. The co-main event sees Chad Mendes take on former UFC lightweight champ, Eddie Alvarez at 165lbs. The fight card is set to go down on April 29 in Denver, Colorado.

Chad Mendes is coming off a spectacular win at KnuckleMania 2. Despite the victory, he remains uncommitted to his fighting future. The former UFC title challenger unretired in 2021 and was given clearance from the UFC to compete for BKFC. He quickly signed a three-fight deal with the promotion, and his debut was set for last week’s KnuckleMania card against Joshuah Alvarez.

Mendes (18-5 MMA) has not competed in combat sports since suffering a TKO loss to Alex Volkanovski at UFC 232 in December of 2018. Although previously reported to be retired, Mendes did not confirm that he was officially done with the sport until Tuesday. Mendes told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto he has notified the UFC of his retirement, and he has been removed from the USADA testing pool.
