Chael Sonnen confident Fedor Emelianenko will sign with the UFC
Earlier this month, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko returned to the cage once again. Emelianenko fought former UFC heavyweight Fabio Maldonado in Russia in what turned out to be an extremely back and forth fight.
After being rocked in the first round, and nearly finished, Emelianenko managed to win the next 2 rounds en route to a majority decision win.
Following the fight, there was continued talk of whether or not Emelianenko would fight in the UFC given that he revealed he was closer than ever to signing with the promotion.
Chael Sonnen spoke on Submission Radio to discuss the situation:
“I think so. I think Fedor is going to come over to the UFC.
“There’s nobody on the roster that he could beat and I don’t think there’s anybody that he wants to fight.”
“He’s pretty clear on what his business plan is, which is to go out there and fight the easiest guy possible and keep the mystique going. And it’s not a bad plan, that’s actually not meant to be a knock on him. He selling tickets and drawing attendance and getting away with it.”
“But yeah, the UFC is a whole nother deal. But if somebody wants to see Fedor get beat up, it is what it is.”
