Chael Sonnen leaks news about potential new UFC commentary team
Shortly following the news of the UFC being sold to WME-IMG, it was revealed that the promotion was looking to replace the ‘hype master’ style of commentating provided by Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan in order to potentially strike a new TV deal. This was followed by Eddie Bravo potentially slipping up on an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience when he asked who would be replacing Mike Goldberg in the commentary booth. Bravo’s question was met by a period of awkward silence from Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub, before the duo attempted to pretend the comment was a misunderstanding.
While no details were given on who would be taking over commentary duties for the promotion, UFC President Dana White revealed that he was working on assembling a commentary ‘dream team’.
“This has been my dream to assemble this dream team of commentating and I’ve wanted this guy for years and I’m working on it and it’s going to happen,”
“Joe Rogan, in my opinion, is the greatest to ever do it,” White added. “The greatest ever to call fights. HBO is very cocky and arrogant in their [boxing] production — but they deserve to be; they do it well and everything else — but Joe Rogan is the greatest to ever call fights in a combat sport.”
Fans began to speculate as to who would be stepping in, potentially as Mike Goldberg’s replacement, however on a recent episode of his podcast, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen may have leaked some news in regards to who would be joining Joe Rogan in the commentary booth.
“Is Jim Rome going to join Joe Rogan? Is he going to take that offer? Did I just say something that is not public information? Let’s move on…”
When discussing possibilities of who would be replacing Mike Goldberg, several fans have continued to throw out Rome’s name. In addition, UFC President Dana White has made several appearances on Rome’s radio show.
