Chael Sonnen updates on $30,000 takedown bet with ‘Rampage’
Ahead of their Bellator 192 Heavyweight Grand Prix opening round battle, MMA legends Chael Sonnen and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson agreed to a pretty interesting bet. The deal, they decided, was that Rampage would award Sonnen $10,000 for every takedown he completed, while Sonnen would cash out $500 for every jab Rampage landed.
In the end, Sonnen completed three takedowns, which meant Rampage owed him $30,000. For a moment, there was some question as to whether Rampage would sign this massive check. Sonnen assured that if he did receive a check, he wouldn’t cash it.
“We’ll see if he’s a man of honor,” Sonnen said at the Bellator 192 post-fight press conference. “We did shake on that. But I will tell you, I won’t cash his check. But I expect him to hand me one. What I do with it is my business, but I will tell you I won’t cash that check.”
Despite this early question as to whether or not Rampage would hold up his end of the bargain, Sonnen recently posted on Twitter to announced he’d received a check. In this Tweet, Sonnen praised Rampage for being a man of his word. He then assured that, as he promised, he won’t cash the check…
…But he will deposit it!
UPDATE
-Received Rampage’s Takedown Check today.
He is a MAN of his WORD.
As am I:
I promised I would NOT CASH IT; and I won’t.
I will…
DEPOSIT it, though……— Chael Sonnen (@ChaelSonnen) February 27, 2018
“Update,” Sonnen said in his Tweet. “Received Rampage’s takedown check today. He is a man of his word. As am I: I promised I would not cash it; and I won’t. I will… DEPOSIT it, though.”
So, from the sounds of it, Chael Sonnen is now $30,000 richer. Are you surprised “The Bad Guy” is cashing this check?
