Tito Ortiz reveals fight with Chael Sonnen will be his last

While Tito Ortiz is currently gearing up for his Bellator 170 scrap with Chael Sonnen on January 21st, Ortiz has kept the fact that the fight will be his last under wraps, until now. Earlier this year, Sonnen celebrated the end of his two year suspension handed down by the NSAC. Following the end of his suspension, it didn’t take long for Sonnen to announce that he was ending his retirement, and had signed an exclusive multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA. In addition, it didn’t take long for Sonnen to call out former UFC champion Tito Ortiz for a fight, which was eventually booked for January 21st in Inglewood California.

Prior to UFC 202 in August, where Conor McGregor stepped into the Octagon to avenge his UFC 196 loss to Nate Diaz, UFC President Dana White stated that after the fight, McGregor must either drop back down to featherweight to defend his belt against interim champion Jose Aldo, or vacate the belt. After McGregor defeated Diaz via majority decision on the record breaking card, he remained openly confident that his next fight would take place at lightweight, despite the fact that Dana White was adamant about him either returning to 145, or vacating the belt.

Sonnen, who just became eligible to fight again after a two-year suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission for testing positive for multiple banned substances admitted his use of performance enhancing drugs was called “one of the worst drug cheats in the history of professional sports” by Yahoo Sports.
