Harry Kettle - November 18, 2019

UFC lightweight Jared Gordon has issued a statement in the wake of his defeat to Charles Oliveira at UFC Sao Paulo this past weekend. The main card clash between these two men was poised as being a potential show-stealer, and it certainly lived up to the hype, but unfortunately, Gordon didn’t have all too much to do with that.

Charles Oliveira explains why he is the “right guy” to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov

Natasha Hooper - November 14, 2019

Lightweight contender Charles Oliveira is preparing to square off against Jared Gordon on Saturday night at UFC Sao Paulo. However, “Do Bronx” already has his sights set on a bigger challenge: the undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. The submission specialist feels most comfortable fighting off his back and will frequently challenge his opponents with his jiu-jitsu. Oliveira believes his skills pose a new threat to the lightweight champion who also uses his grappling expertise to smother opponents. He said during an interview with AG Fight:

Gilbert Burns names multiple top lightweights who turned him down

Cole Shelton - May 30, 2019

Gilbert Burns is looking to get into the top-15 of the UFC lightweight division, but that has been easier said than done. The Brazilian is riding a two-fight winning streak with wins over Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Mike Davis. However, the 32-year-old says many ranked fighters have simply turned down the contract to fight him. Burns wanted to fight Alexander Hernandez, Gregor Gillespie, and Charles Oliveira — among others. Unfortunately, he’s had no luck finding a willing dance partner.

Charles Oliveira wants to return to the featherweight division

Tom Taylor - May 29, 2017

Charles Oliveira has had an unfortunately long list of failed cuts to the featherweight division’s 145-pound cap. His latest failed cut occurred back in November, when he missed weight for a featherweight bout with Ricardo Lamas by a whopping 10 pounds. In the wake of this failed cut to featherweight – which culminated in a submission loss – Oliveira was sent back up to lightweight where the cut would be less severe. He made his lightweight return against former Bellator champ Will Brooks, and he couldn’t have looked better in doing so, locking up a standing rear-naked choke for the win.

Charles Oliveira reacts to suspension for jumping cage after UFC 210 win

bjpenndotcom - April 13, 2017

This past weekend at UFC 210, UFC featherweight Charles Oliveira made his successful UFC lightweight debut as he picked up a 1st round submission win over Will Brooks to kick off the pay-per view portion of the main card. Following his big win over Brooks, Olvieira celebrated as many fighters do, by jumping the cage to celebrate. The New York State Athletic Commission wasn’t too fond of Oliveira’s celebration, and ultimately handed ‘Do Bronx’ a 60-day suspension for the incident. This followed the precedent set by the NYSAC when they suspended UFC middleweight #1 contender Yoel Romero for 60 days for climbing out of the cage to celebrate his 3rd round KO win over Chris Weidman. Ultimately, the suspension fell under the category of ‘exiting the fighting area’.

Charles Oliveira suspended by NYSAC

bjpenndotcom - April 12, 2017

In a shocking move, Charles Oliveira has been suspended by the New York State Athletic Commission for his celebration following his first round submission win over Will Brooks. After winning the fight, Oliveira celebrated as many fighters do, by jumping the cage. That didn’t sit too well with the New York State Athletic Commission, who handed Oliveira a 60-day suspension for the action. That of course is on top of the mandatory minimum 7-day medical suspension Oliveira received following his lightweight debut. The win over Brooks was certainly a much needed one for Oliveira, who found himself going into 2017 on a 2-fight skid that saw him drop a ‘UFC Fight Night: Vancouver’ submission loss to Anthony Pettis nine months ago, before then dropping a submission loss to Ricardo Lamas at the TUF Latin America 3 Finale back in November of 2016. With his 2-fight losing streak now snapped, Oliveira has found himself at #9 on the UFC’s official featherweight rankings.

Charles Oliveira misses weight by 9 pounds ahead of 'UFC Mexico' fight

bjpenndotcom - November 4, 2016

While #8 ranked featherweight Charles Oliveira has spent the majority of his UFC career competing at featherweight, ‘Do Bronx’ has been frequently criticized for being inconsistent in regards to his ability to make the featherweight limit of 145 pounds. Friday morning in Mexico City, Oliveira missed weight for his ‘TUF Latin America 3 Finale’ fight with Ricardo Lamas by 9 pounds. The miss made it 5 total for Oliveira over the course of his UFC career, with it being the 4th time he has missed weight, and still could potentially end up competing the following evening.
