Eddie Alvarez has had an interesting run in ONE Championship thus far. After losing his promotional debut at the hands of Timofey Nastyukhin in March, he rebounded with a beautiful, come-from-behind submission defeat of the former champion Eduard Folayang in August. Alvarez was then expected to meet Saygid Guseyn “Dagi” Arslanaliev at ONE: Century in Tokyo this weekend, but was unfortunately forced off the card with an injury.

In the short period of time that she’s been separated from the Las Vegas-based promotion, she has already received interested from former Strikeforce boss and current Bellator president Scott Coker, who is reportedly preparing to make her an offer. ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong is accustomed to dealing with ONE Championship belts, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t appreciate the hard work that goes into winning a UFC belt. Sityodtong, who is also the owner of EVOLVE MMA in Singapore, actually received a UFC belt from former lightweight champion and EVOLVE fighter Rafael dos Anjos, and calls it ‘one of the best gifts’ he’s ever received. Sityodtong dished on this emotional moment in a post on his official Facebook page.

Yet at a pre-fight press conference on Tuesday, ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong added even more spice to this massive kickboxing tournament. He says the winner will receive a $1 million prize.

Johnson and Alvarez have already debuted in the ONE cage — with very different results — and Northcutt will do so on May 17 in Singapore. Belfort, however, has not yet been booked for his first ONE Championship fight.

Former UFC standout “Super” Sage Northcutt will make his debut in the ONE Championship welterweight division on May 17, as he is set to battle kickboxing specialist Cosmo Alexandre at ONE: Enter the Dragon in Singapore. While this matchup is currently consuming all of Northcutt’s focus, he has previously expressed interest in competing in both Muay Thai and kickboxing bouts as part of ONE Super Series. In fact, he’s hoping to capture titles in MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing.

ONE Championship has signed a host of high profile free agents over the last few months, such as former UFC champions Demetrious Johnson, Eddie Alvarez and Vitor Belfort, former UFC stars Sage Northcutt, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Yushin Okami, Muay Thai star Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex, and kickboxing ace Nieky Holzken. Speaking at the ONE: A New Era post-fight press conference on Sunday, ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong promised the free agent signings will continue. One possible future ONE signing, he claimed, is kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa, who was cage-side for the event.

Given Sityodtong’s recent habit of signing high profile mixed martial artists to ONE Championship, some members of the combat sports world speculated that he could be working on a deal with St-Pierre.

Former ONE Championship welterweight titleholder Ben Askren is now headed to the UFC — though the promotion has not officially announced his arrival just yet. Askren’s long-awaited migration to the Octagon was made possible by a history-making trade between ONE and the UFC that saw the UFC cough up its former flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson in exchange for the former ONE welterweight king.
