Chris Weidman to Appear Alongside Kevin James in CBS Sitcom

On November 12, on the main card of UFC 205, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will look to get back on track after losing his title to Luke Rockhold almost a year ago. His opportunity to do so will come against Cuba’s Yoel Romero, a former Olympian who has not lost a fight since a 2011 knockout at the hands of Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante.

Though Weidman is clearly dead-set on this looming bout with Romero, he’s also keeping busy outside of his training schedule – and we’re not talking about his war of words with reigning middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

According to a report from HollywoodLife.com, Weidman has also dipped his toes in the acting pool. The former champion will apparently appear in an episode of the new CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait. 

The show, which airs on Mondays at 8:30, is helmed by actor and known MMA fan Kevin James. In the show, James plays a retired police officer who is struggling to adapt to life with his family at home.

Weidman will make his cameo in an upcoming episode entitled “Who’s Better Than Us?” According to HollywoodLife.com, he will play a “buff rookie” cop who teams up with James’ ex-partner. This, apparently, will lead to a “one-sided competition,” between James and the much younger Weidman.

Weidman, of course, is not the first fighter to make jump to acting.

Ronda Rousey has appeared in several major films, including instalments of The Expendables and The Fast and the Furious franchises. Georges St-Pierre has also appeared on the big screen, most notably making an appearance as a villain in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Strikeforce vet Gina Carano has starred in a number of major films, including the 2011 release Haywire. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has done the same, starring in the 2010 remake of The A-Team. Michael Bisping, Cain Velasquez, Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, Dan Henderson, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Roy Nelson, and many others have also appeared in movies and television shows.

The list goes on and on.

Should Weidman defeat Romero at UFC 205, he could well receive the next crack at Michael Bisping’s middleweight title. Of course, that honor could also go to the winner of Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero’s late-November bout.
