Former UFC middleweight kingpin Chris Weidman picked up his first win in over two years this past July.
“The All-American” scored a third-round submission victory over surging division contender Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC on FOX 25 on July 22 from Long Island.
Weidman’s fourteenth career victory did not come without a cost however, as Chris suffered a bad thumb injury which required surgery.
The former middleweight champion of the world shared the following post on Instagram showcasing his new scar.
Check it out.
“This was the left hook that dislocated my thumb. Getting excited to be healthy soon and get back in there.”
Chris Weidman started off his professional mixed martials arts career going a perfect 13-0, which included two wins over Anderson Silva, the first of which captured him the UFC middleweight title.
“The All-American” would defend the middleweight strap on three occasions, defeating the aforementioned Anderson Silva and former UFC champions Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort.
Weidman would eventually be dethroned by Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 in December of 2015, suffering a fourth-round TKO loss to “Rocky”.
From there, Weidman would suffered knockout losses to Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi before eventually getting back in the win column against Kelvin Gastelum.
Weidman has been linked to a potential scrap with Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza for later this winter but UFC officials have yet to confirm the contest.
