VIDEO | Tearful Christy Mack opens up in first interview since War Machine Trial
Back in March, Bellator and UFC veteran War Machine was found guilty on 29 of 34 charges stemming from a grisly 2014 attack on ex-girlfriend Christy Mack, and her boyfriend at the time, Corey Thomas. During this bone-chilling attack, War Machine brutalized Mack so severely that she was left with a broken nose, a fractured eye socket, a broken rib, a lacerated liver and extensive bruising. She was also left without many of her teeth, which initially made it difficult for her to recount the details of this horrific incident.
“I just couldn’t understand what she was saying but it was because she didn’t have teeth,” Detective Daniel Tomaino said during the trial.
War Machine also attacked Thomas to the point that Mack believed he was going to kill him.
“Jon was beating Corey, and then at some point he began choking him,” Mack said. “Yes I did,” she continued, when asked if she believed War Machine was going to kill Thomas.
Now several weeks removed from War Machine’s multiple guilty verdicts, Mack has opened up on the entire ordeal in an interview on HBO’s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel. Mack’s episode of the show will air on Tuesday April 18 at 10:00 pm ET. While the episode itself has not yet aired, HBO has released a trailer for it, in which Mack opens up on the incident, saying it was difficult, even during the trial, to abandon the loving feelings she once had for her attacker. See it at the top of this article.
“There was one time in the initial hearing where he mouthed that he loved me and that was extremely difficult,” Mack says in this trailer (via MMAMania.com). “I began bawling immediately. Because for a long time I did still feel emotionally connected to him. It stayed with me for a long time. And while I don’t feel the love that I used to feel for him now, going through this process with somebody that you did love or that I felt I could love, was extremely hard.”
