Claudia Gadelha Has Her Next Fight Lined Up

In late 2014, Brazil’s Claudia Gadelha lost a hotly debated split decision to Poland’s Joanna Jedrzejczyk. In July of this year, the two women went at it again, this time with Jedrzejczyk’s well-guarded strawweight title on the line. While Gadelha started strong in this rematch, she ultimately faded down the stretch, and surrendered another decision loss to her Polish rival as a result.

Now an unfortunate 0-2 against the strawweight division’s reigning champion, Gadelha finds herself in a bit of a difficult position. That said, the talented Brazilian strawweight appears eager to return to her winning ways, as she has announced she’ll be taking on “Cast Iron” Cortney Casey at UFC Fight Night 100 this November 19 in her native Brazil. Gadelha announced this fight on her Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

When she steps onto the canvas in Brazil, Gadelha (13-2) will look to rebound from her recent loss to Jedrzejczyk, and begin what’s likely to be an arduous march back to title contention.

Casey (6-3), meanwhile, will enter the bout with first-round UFC wins over Cristina Stanciu and Randa Markos in her wake. Given that she lost her first two bouts with the organization, this showdown with Gadelha will mark her opportunity to bring her UFC record above the .500 mark.

At the moment, no odds have been released for this bout, though Gadelha’s status as the strawweight division’s bona-fide, second-best fighter should render her a significant betting favorite.

While UFC Fight Night 100 is still under construction, we do know that the card’s headlining honors will go to Swedish contender Alexander Gustafsson, and aging Brazilian Antonio Rogerio Nogeuira, who will meet in an interesting light heavyweight showdown.

Other recently announced highlights of the card include a middleweight scrap between Poland’s Krzysztof Jotko and Brazil’s Thales Leites, and a bantamweight clash between Brazilian striking specialist Johnny Eduardo and one-time WEC title contender Manny Gamburyan.
