Joe Rogan thinks its “f***ing crazy” that CM Punk is on UFC 225 main card
The UFC 225 main card is absolutely stacked. Regrettably, there is one aspect of this main card that is a little controversial. Many fans are disappointed that it includes the sophomore MMA fight of former pro wrestler CM Punk, who is set to take on Mike Jackson.
The controversy, of course, is that Punk and Jackson both own 0-1 pro MMA records. While Punk is a huge name — and a figure that is almost certain to boost the UFC 225 PPV revenue — many fans feel he belongs on the undercard.
UFC color commentator Joe Rogan seems to share this feeling. In fact, he believes CM Punk and Mike Jackson should be fighting on the amateur circuit. In his eyes, they’re not even skilled enough for Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.
“[The fight] shouldn’t even be on the ‘Tuesday Night Contender’ show. It should be in some amateur event somewhere,” Rogan said on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (h/t MMA NYTT). “That’s really what they are. They’re guys learning how to compete. They’re in the first fight on the pay-per-view. That’s fucking crazy.”
That said, Rogan does feel Punk’s second UFC matchup is better than his first, which pitted him against the dangerous Mickey Gall, who ultimately won by first-round submission.
“He’s now fighting a fighter who’s commensurate in talent and there’s nothing wrong with being a beginner in martial arts,” Rogan said. “But there’s something wrong with thinking you can be a beginner and fight Mickey Gall. It was a foolish venture. My approach to it was this is going to be a very good lesson for people who are fans of positive thinking and they think that’s enough. That s–t is not enough. If you weigh 110 pounds, you can positive think your way to the bank, Francis Ngannou’s still going to punch your brains out. There’s just no way around it.”
UFC 225 goes down on June 9 in Chicago, Illinois.
