With this title-grabbing win, Garbrandt now looks ahead to his first challenge as the bantamweight king. Logic suggests that challenge would be provided by his former training partner TJ Dillashaw, a former champion on a solid, two-fight win-streak. Recently, however, the new champion set his sights on featherweight battles that he deems to be more lucrative, mentioning Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor as possible opponents.

“I want the biggest money fight for me,” Garbrandt said on a recent episode of MMA Hour. “I think I saw Jose Aldo say that he’d like to fight me, and you know, I’d like to test his chin. Like I said, he’s got wins over my teammates and I want to get every one of those back. There’s so many fights for me. I just gotta sit down with my management team, Sean [Shelby], Dana [White], and see what fight’s the best for me and the biggest money fight that will get us all rich, get us all paid. That’s what I want to do.”

Were Cody Garbrandt to be awarded a fight with someone like Aldo, it would leave Dillashaw out in the cold. Given that Dillashaw has more than earned the opportunity to try to reclaim the bantamweight title, this possibility drew the of many fans.

On Tuesday night, however, Garbrandt put those fans’ worries to bed, assuring in a Tweet that he’s more than down to take on Dillashaw. In this Tweet, he assured that Dillashaw is “getting it,” and that Conor McGregor was right to refer to Dillashaw as a “snake in the grass.” See it below.

So, contrary to his calls for fights with Aldo and McGregor, it appears that Garbrandt is in fact willing to take on Dillashaw.
